Functions are part of microservices architecture that allow you to segment “chunks” of code to perform repetitive tasks triggered by an event. Many cloud providers offer Functions-as-a-Service (FaaS), but you can also deploy serverless frameworks on cloud infrastructure. One of PostgreSQL’s unique features is the ability to support unstructured data using HStore and JSONB data types to provide similar functionality to a NoSQL database.
